{"id":4160,"date":"2022-12-10T08:31:23","date_gmt":"2022-12-10T08:31:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onkodradio.staging.ileysinc.com\/en\/?p=4160"},"modified":"2022-12-10T08:31:44","modified_gmt":"2022-12-10T08:31:44","slug":"marking-international-day-un-calls-for-ensuring-human-rights-for-all-somalis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/onkodradio.staging.ileysinc.com\/en\/marking-international-day-un-calls-for-ensuring-human-rights-for-all-somalis\/","title":{"rendered":"Marking international day, UN calls for ensuring human rights for all Somalis"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"field-body\">\n<p><strong>Mogadishu\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013\u00a0In observance of this year\u2019s Human Rights Day, the United Nations in Somalia has called on Somalis to stand up for human rights to ensure that everyone, including members of vulnerable and marginalized communities, persons with disabilities, internally displaced persons, and others who experience exclusion, may fully enjoy their rights and freedoms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are approaching the 75th\u00a0anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the world\u2019s foundation stone for the promotion and protection of human rights. Its rights and freedoms are just as important today as they were when UN Member States adopted it. We should continue to work to fulfil its promise of human rights for all,\u201d\u00a0said the UN Secretary-General\u2019s Deputy Special Representative for Somalia, Anita Kiki Gbeho.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomalia has, and continues to make, significant achievements to promote and protect human rights, including those rights enshrined in the Provisional Constitution which guarantees rights and freedoms for all Somalis. Somalia\u2019s commitment is also evident in the wide range of international human rights treaties to which it is a signatory. The United Nations in Somalia remains committed to supporting Somalia\u2019s efforts to promote and protect human\u00a0rights\u00a0for the benefit of the Somali people,\u201d\u00a0added Ms. Gbeho, who also serves currently as the Officer-in-Charge of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).<\/p>\n<p>The theme of this year\u2019s observance is \u2018Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All.\u2019\u00a0Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December \u2013 the day the UN General Assembly adopted the UDHR in 1948.
